On my 1011 running XP I was getting "randomly" either 600 or 768 lines and could not change it.
Turns out:
If I turn on WiFi and then reboot I get 1024x768
If I turn off WiFi and then reboot I get 1024x600

Once I boot into the correct resolution I can then turn wireless on.

Any thoughts ?

After a few days of using wireless to sucessfully set the resolution, its gone back to consistently running in 1024x768.
I'll phone Dell tech support tomorrow.

That's very odd. I cannot think of any reason why the wifi settings should affect the resolution, unless for some reason the wireless and graphics drivers are booting concurrently and one makes the other fall over...
