Default Very Interesting!!! - 10-22-2009, 08:15 PM

Just went over to the Dell Outlet just for the hell of it and made an interesting discovery.

There was only one re-furbished 10v unit available and there were 15 to 20 pages full of re-furbished 10's? I wonder what the reasoning for that?

There is no rhyme or reason... that is all based directly off of what they have available. Now, I am not saying that there may not have been some bug in their system or inventory... but I do not think there are any indications that this means anything further.

Even if you are implying that this is a hint of new products to come in the pipeline then you are misleading yourself because the Outlet will still carry 10Vs if newer models are released anyhow.

I was thinking they've just been selling them like hotcakes with that 20% coupon code. I bot a 9 a couple days ago and there were tons, checking it recently because of the code there were none, same thing with the 10v's.

yes, i was surprized to see the same thing just now. no 10vs left! i debated on using my 20% coupon (i have all the dell mini's i need) but i couldn't resist. got one of the last $249 (120GB drive) models left ($199). i'm going to use it to experiment to my hearts content with Mac conversions, snow leopard, etc.

my blue 10v has 10.5.8 running well and when i tried to update it with NBI-3, recently, it got all screwed up. had to reinstall everything. now i can learn the tricks on this forum with the "spare" 10v and not jeopardize my working (and needed) netbook.

p.s. i now have another hole in my head -- which i needed as much as another netbook! hope my brains don't keep falling out.

bmc: that's not what I was implying at all but that does bring up another angle that I hadn't thought about.

Mine were the following:

1. was there something architecturally wrong with the 10 that caused that many to need refurbishing?

2. Has the 10 just been around longer therefore just by shear numbers there are more being refurbished?

3. is the 10 because of more add-ins available more complex and therefore more apt to have problems with?

Just a thought!

My wholly uneducated, WAG is that the 9's and 10v's are popular in the refurb store because of their hackability. People are buying them as second computers and therefore want to spend as little as possible on them (so they hit the refurb store with coupon firmly in hand). I even considered getting a 10 just to play around with - who can pass up a coupon?
