Default Upgrade HDD to SSD - 10-21-2009, 02:30 PM

Just got my new Dell 10v with 160GHDD, if I'd like to upgrade the HDD to SSD? should I buy the 2.5" SSD or the MINI PCIe SSD? I have not open up the HDD compartment yet so I don't really know what type of HDD Dell using.
what SSD best for mini 10v ?

I believe the 10 and 10v both use standard laptop size (9.5mm tall, 2.5" form factor) SATA drives. So, any SSD or HDD that satisfies those requirements should work.

As for best, the Intel SSDs seem to be it. But they're expensive. The OCZ Vertex seems OK.

If it says SATA and 2.5", it's virtually guaranteed to work. That said, I'm not sure about the Kingston's performance.

Is it possible to go backwards? I'm eyeballing a 10v with a 16GB SSD, and would like to swap drives with my 1737 which has a WD500

why you need to go backward ? to run OSX, SSD work really fast an way better than HDD. unless you want slow speed but lot capacity which is netbook no need that much capacity

My 1737 has dual 5,400rpm 500GB drives right now

Ideally, I would boot from the 16GB SSD and store my data on the secondary 500GB drive

The spare 500GB drive would then go into the 10v

The Studio 1737 is a 17" notebook, with two internal SATA ports. Right now I am running dual 500GB drives, for a grand total of 930GB after formatting
