Default Wireless Card Must Be Removed To Upgrade RAM - 10-17-2009, 01:24 PM

Well, in case you were wondering, the wireless card must be removed to be able to even tilt the motherboard up to replace the RAM.

I was going to upgrade the RAM this morning and I could not get the screw out that was holding the wireless card in. Oh well, I thought, maybe it's not necessary to remove it. I did the rest of the disassembling process only to find out it is. So, now I will be reading through all the posts about ways to remove a stripped screw.

Well, it was a good exercise to learn how to disassemble and reassemble a 10v...Yeah right.

EDIT: See my last post. It is NOT NECESSARY to remove the wireless card to install memory.

Interesting as I thought the same & could only remove one screw though when I got to the motherboard I was able to tilt it in such a way that I managed to replace the memory - can't remember exactly what I did but definitely didn't/couldn't remove the wireless card -

My wireless card only had one screw and by not removing it meant the lower, left part of the motherboard near the mini card reader was 'stuck'. I couldn't bend the motherboard up enough to access the memory card. At least not bend it enough that I felt comfortable doing.

I had to remove mine too when I got the new 10v. I tried not removing it but didn't have any luck. I think though the issue was with the antenna wires, but it may also have been the card couldn't make it past a particular obstruction. (I'm hazy on the details at the moment.)

Both of the wires seemed loose and I couldn't determine what the motherboard was hanging up on. Although, the card didn't seem attached to anything but the motherboard (once the wires were detached) so it was a bit of a mystery.

Now the thread title is wrong.

You do not need to take the wireless card out to remove the motherboard.

There's a metal stand off very close to the edge of the case where the mini reader is. That's what was holding the motherboard in place. It was a very tight fit between the motherboard, the mini card reader and the edge of the case.

Now happily running with 2 gigs. I'll be doing this again once the internal BT card arrives.

Glad to hear you got it. I didn't look too much when I put the 2 GB in my new one.

For the BT module, all you should have to do is just pop the trackpad cover off. I don't think you even need to take they keyboard off. Unless you're doing something other than a stock OEM module.

It's a stock BT module and thanks for the heads up regarding what needs removed. Since it's coming from China it will be a while, so I decided to install the 500 gig drive I have and use your guide for triple booting and install Win7 and OSX 10.6.1.

Keep updated on it, as I saw your other post. I just got back from the hospital with my son (he's okay, ugly case of croup), so I'm finally catching up on everything.

Well, zero success on setting up dual boot with OSX and Win7.

OSX install goes fine. Win7 installs fine. Reinstall of the bootloader goes fine. When I reboot from the Win7 USB, I set the Win7 partition as active and trying to boot from it results in the expected 0xc000000e error.

When I boot from the Win7 USB, there's no Repair Your Computer option on the second screen. I get the first screen (language selection), then the Agreement screen, then the third screen is where you select the partition. If I select the Win7 partition, the installation starts all over again. Any ideas?

That's odd. What version are you using? RTM?
