Default Screen Brightness and Battery Life - 09-30-2009, 06:57 PM

Just recently got my 10v with a 6-cell battery and have been noticing that battery life doesn't seem to be affected much by screen brightness. I've been running with the screen at lowest brightness by default just because I assumed that it would greatly change my battery performance but today using it at half brightness (which is significantly brighter than lowest) it looks like I'm only losing 7-10 minutes of life. Has there been any actual research done on this?

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 and have had wireless turned on/browsed the web constantly

I believe that running a radio device (like wifi) takes a much larger piece of the battery pie than screen illumination, especially with LCDs.

LCD is the technique to display the stuff, not the backlight (Which drains the battery a lot).

If I put the display (not the device itself) to sleep in OS X,
the displayed running time left for the battery jumps up about 2 hours.

Haven't tested yet how much the time varies between full and lowest backlight setting.
