Default 10v display resolution - 09-19-2009, 01:38 PM

Dell UK are currently offering a Windows XP 10v with bundled 3G WWAN card (inc 2 months free Vodafone but no contract commitment) and a 160GB HD for £250.

This looks a good buy - I had hoped to snag an outlet Mini 9 with WWAN but they appear to be like hens' teeth now.

The think putting me off the 10v is that I thought the Mini 10v was 1024x576 and the Mini 9 was 1024x600. However the Dell site specs state the 10v on offer is 1024x600 explicitly.

Is this a mistake? I'd hope to Hackintosh and dual boot OS X and Windows - and integrated 3G is very useful to me.

However I'm not convinced by 1024x576 as a resolution - I suspect I'll notice the missing 24 lines more than it sounds. Also how does the trackpad on the 10v compare to the 9?

(I currently have a Mini 9 with 32GB SSD and 2GB RAM running OS X, but really want to get integrated 3G, and 160GB sounds quite useful. On the other hand the increased size is a con)

The 10v was upgraded to a 1024x600 panel awhile back.

Unless it's a refurb, as far as I know all new 10vs from Dell UK are 1024x600 - mine was, two months ago, although the order stated 1024x576, and plenty of other people on here have ordered new 10vs from Dell UK, noticed it says 1024x576 on the order and then been pleased to receive 1024x600s.

As for whether the 24 pixels are a big deal, I've used both and I honestly can't say I noticed the difference. Both screens had various screen-optimising measures (hide taskbar, assorted Firefox modifications) and both were eminently workable.

My advice would be to go for the good deal and don't worry too much - your screen is most likely to be 1024x600.
