Default DDR2 667 Suitable for Mini 10v? - 09-15-2009, 12:18 AM

I'm pretty certain a higher speed module can be used in a lower speed slot, but a few google results make me slightly doubt that this is the case in all circumstances. Can anyone confirm whether a 2GB DDR2 667 module works in the Mini 10v?

I ask because the DDR2 533 modules are more expensive than the DDR2 667 modules.

Cheers

When I upgraded the ram in my 10v the original stick was actually a 1gb 667 stick according to the label on the side of the stick. No idea why Dell put a 677 chip in there from the factory (I assume they do this for all mini10vs), but it down-clocked itself fine to the processor's 533. Nearly all ram is down-clockable.

I just checked CPU-Z, and found that there's currently a DDR2-800 SO-DIMM in this thing. I guess that answers my question.

You can use any speed, it will just be limited by the chipset
