Default World's simplest case mod! - 09-14-2009, 09:42 AM

So I wanted to replace the Dell logo on my Hacbook Mini 10v with an Apple logo. I got a vinyl sticker but it was too thin and the logo showed. So here's what I did:

Got an old plastic card (the sort you get as gift cards for use in stores).
Carefully cut the Apple logo, just big enough to cover the Dell logo while still centered on the lid
Sanded with wet&dry super-fine sand-paper
Painted with decent silver spray paint.
Glue on with superglue.

Voila! It matches the palm-rest perfectly, and has a similar finish to my unibody Macbook. Not as nice as some of the other mods around here (specifically the laser-cut & insert mod) but passable I reckon.

Looks great. The fact that the logo is elevated above the lid surface can be interpreted as a symbolic hint that the Apple quality is added upon some basis material... ;-)

Any chance you would sell these? Depending on the quality of the plastic and the price-point I think people would be interested!

I guess it depends on what you want. If there are features of the Lenovo you have to have that are not found on the Dell, buy the Lenovo. Otherwise, you won't find the same fetures for a cheaper price than you can find the Mini. And for added options, you can look at the Mini10, Mini10v and the Latitude 2100 -- all in the Dell Outlet (the Minis are in the Home Outlet, the Latitude 2100 is in the Business/School/Government Outlet).

Good luck!
