Default 2GB Ram upgrade - no more wireless? what the - 09-09-2009, 01:03 PM

Hey all... aussie in trouble here.

installed kingston 2gb ram into my 10v... no problems there and awesome tutorial by the way.

one problem, no wireless. nothing, doesnt even consider that the card is even installed anymore.

have tried cleaning, reseating, repositioning, checking antenna plugs, yadda yadda... nothing.

so i uninstalled the 2gb and went back to the 1gb, still nothing. so whatever has happened in the meanwhile it certainly doesnt like it. could it just be a coincidental faulty card? could it be something to do with memory addressing?

please help - this laptop is for my girlfriend for while i am overseas in a week so i would like to get it fixed for her.

running xp btw.

thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem. Did the 2GB RAM upgrade and now my system doesn't even recognize my WLAN card at all. Tried all the same as you. Going to try the card from my other Mini in the morning and see if I possible killed the card.

The antenna wires may be shot - the 10v I took apart yesterday had them crammed back into the case in a really nasty way (I'm assuming the refurb guys did this) - they were pretty bent up and I was surprised they worked.

If swapping the card isn't the issue, take a good look at those antenna wires.

Bad antenna wires should have nothing to do with the WLAN module not being detected in Windows. All they do is give you a slightly better WiFi signal. I'm pretty sure that my WLAN module was damaged somehow when I removed it and reinstalled it. Going to see if I can get Dell to ship me a new one.

I contacted Dell about this last week and they overnighted me a new WLAN card. Installed it, booted, and it worked perfectly with no driver download needed
