I'm guessing that you are referring to a standard XP Mini 10v, with a green lid as the only extra. The Dell website has it for the same price, so if you were looking at prices from another site then they aren't that good.

I would be looking at the Dell outlet. There is a 15% off + free standard shipping coupon in effect for refurbs and you can get some good deals, less than $300. Use coupon code: RWLGL$4S48Q4WK. Expires August 16.

Look at it this way -- you might be getting someone else's problem unit, but Dell should have fixed the problem, and you're getting the same one year, mail-in warranty (which is upgradable BTW.) This isn't like a car that could be a lemon, there are only a handful of components in a Mini 9.

My wife has a refurb Mini 9, and except for the green "refurbished" sticker on the bottom of the unit, you could not tell the difference between it and a new unit when it came out of the box.

Obviously it's your choice, but I would rather save the money and buy from the Outlet than get a new device.

Generally, I've never had a problem with factory-refurbished stuff, and getting the full 1-year warranty (and Dell allows you to buy the same extended warranty for outlet items like you can for new items) should add peace of mind -- some manufacturers only offer a 90-day warranty on refurbs. On Thursday I ordered a refurbished Mini 10v, 160GB HDD, black lid with 6-cell battery, with 15% off coupon, for $229 -- at that price, I couldn't say no. Can't wait until it arrives.

I have purchased 1 new and 2 refurbs from the Dell Outlet and I could not have told the difference between the new and the refurbs except for the Refurbished label on the bottom. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I got a refurb Mini 10v, 120GB XP, this week from the Dell Outlet. Looked brand new, except for the green sticker others mentioned.

While I upgraded the RAM to 1GB, I particularly inspected for what might have been done inside during the "refurbishment". Saw no figerprints, other than the ones I just added , and all components had recent manufacture date codes.

As far as I can deduce, this unit only had the hard drive re-imaged w/ XP-SP3.

Go for the refurb! So far I'm in for only $229 (free shipping) for the Mini 10v, plus $19.95 for a PNY 2GB PC2-5300 (after MI rebate) from Fry's. And I'm already up and running OS X 10.5.8 with dual monitor (already had Samsung 20").

You put the coupon code in after you've selected which unit you want to buy and are going through checkout.
