Question Trouble Booting from External DVD drive - 08-15-2009, 03:29 PM

I have been attempting to reinstall OSX on my 10v by booting into the boot-132 CD, then booting from the retail Leopard CD. It worked the first time around, though it crashed after I tried to perform a software update. However, I no longer can boot from my external drive. I installed Ubuntu to see if I could debug the problem and maybe install the drivers(I had installed them first on the stock xp os before I installed over it). Even now, in Ubuntu, I can not use the drive. It is recognized, but always says there is no media when I try to mount it.

What I need to know is how can I get my drive to atleast read disks and hopfully be able to boot from them.

My drive is a LG Super Multi Rewriter (GE20)

Any help is much appreciated.

In Linux, run "dmesg | tail" in a terminal after connecting the drive and/or after inserting a disk. Maybe a informative error message will be there.

( "dmesg" displays the system log. "tail" limits the display to the 10 most recent lines. )
