If it's Ubuntu 9.04, use unetbootin to create a bootable USB key from the Ubuntu ISO. Then stick it in the slot, reboot your 10v, press F12 at the right moment and choose the USB to boot from. Just hit enter to go through the default liveCD boot options, you'll boot into a usable Ubuntu that has made no changes to your hard drive.
On the desktop should be an executable called something like "Install" - double click on that and it will start to give you the options to install Ubuntu on your hard drive, including partitioning and dual-booting what you've already got.
I haven't tried dual-booting (I'm 9.04 all the way) so can't help you there, but I hope this helps you out.
