Default External monitor: 1050 x 1680 (portrait mode) - 08-02-2009, 10:54 AM

Hi, all

I'm planning to buy a Dell Mini 10v for use with an external LCD monitor in portrait mode with a 1050 x 1680 resolution, with the desktop extended under Windows XP. Is any member here doing this? I wonder how well the 950 chipset and Intel driver perform with this configuration.

Feedback invited!

I don't know about portrait but I tried using my samsung 20" 1680x1050 and it wouldn't work. The intel driver wouldn't output in that resolution. I ended up doing something like 1280 by 900. It was the highest resolution combination that actually worked. I'm very disappointed about my mini 10v in that regard.

Maybe I should give it another try now that I'm on the much improved win7.

Thanks for your feedback, Yuusou.

It seems that 1680 x 1050 does present a problem for the 950 chipset.

Good luck with Windows 7! If you manage to get an external 1680 x 1050 screen to work with the 10v, please post again.

My Samsung Syncmaster 206bw 20" works great at 1680x1050.

It extends my OS X 10.5.8 desktop very crisply. So it's probably
your driver that has issues, definitely not a chipset deficiency.

Try installing the Samsung monitor driver from their site. As I recall
that worked for me during the brief time (2 days) that I played with
XP to check my newly arrived Mini 10v.
