Default cooling mats - 07-27-2009, 04:56 AM

does anyone have any idea if those laptop cooling mats would work ok for this the mini 10v? the battery gets a little warm during usage, and i read that if you keep the battery cool, that juice won't run out as fast. I am trying to see how i can get more than 5hrs on a full charge. I have the brightness on the lowest setting and going blind doing it; also i have win xp, i haven't really done much to it other than take it out of the box last month.

dont know if they are out by you or not but, I got mine at Bestbuy for $25, here is the link....it works great with little or no effect on the battery, but of course I do have the 6cell on my Mini 10, it also fits great in to my Targus case I got from Staples also $25.....see 2nd link....it also has enough room for the ac adapter too.

I would think the fans running on USB power from the laptop would drain the battery faster than the heat. Just my $.02

think had rather have a 1/2 hour less battery and cool legs than being able to finish a game with burns...

When I saw the topic title I thought you really meant a cooling pad vs. a hardware fan based laptop cooler.

I own the Thermaltake iXloft pad and like it and feel that it does keep my mini cooler. Here's a link to a description and review:

How does a cooling pad work? And im using a fan right now. I stole it from my dads laptop. I don't carry it around, i just plug it in when my mini 10v is plugged into the wall.

Yay me for my Dell mini 10v. 120gb.

Smile Belkin FSL001 - 09-20-2009, 02:41 PM

I have a Belkin FSL001 that I got on sale at Staples a few months ago. Got it for an old Compaq R4000 that heats up like crazy. I tried it with my Mini10v:

- fits nice - the Mini sits nicely on it, almost like it was made for it.
- it really works - I use SIW to check temperatures and although I don't remember the exact numbers, I recollect it brought temps down by over 20 degrees.
- some noise, but not noticeable after a while
- did not use on battery power, I had it plugged in so can't comment on drain rate.

What I took away most from using it was how it made the 10v even better to use because of stability, positioning and screen height.

Maybe I have never used my dell mini for anything intensive enough, but I have never felt mind get more than just warm. Then again my xps 1340 gets so hot I I can not touch certain points on it.

My response earlier was more to the fact the the OP seemed to be asking because he wanted to keep his battery cool to make it last longer, no? One of these days I will run something and see how hot I can really get this puppy!

The style I linked to uses a crystal. It absorbs energy when it 'melts.' That is when it changes from a solid to a liquid it cools the laptop by absorbing the heat energy for that solid to liquid change. Once it has completely liquified it won't remove any more heat. You just let it sit and cool, until it is all solid crystals again. Absorbs heat for 4 hours with my mini9, haven't used my mini10v for more than about 2 hours (watched 2 TV shows, each an hour long but without commercials, perhaps 1:50 combined) at a stretch yet so can't say with it. (I think with its spinning HD vs the 9's SSD it generates more heat)
