The "Netbook Remix" is not actually a separate Ubuntu distribution - it's plain vanilla 9.04 with an interface skin on top of it customized for small netbook screens. If you install the Netbook Remix version and don't like it, there's a simple command that will disable the skin and take you to the vanilla interface. Vice-versa is also true - if you install the vanilla version and want to play with the netbook remix, just install the remix package(s) and off you go. I went the latter direction - I installed vanilla 9.04 (actually, 8.10, when the UNR wasn't quite as polished) and later installed the remix packages to test them out. I didn't much care for the skin, so I disabled them and I'm back to the vanilla interface. |

Here's the fix: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7081942&postcount=8 Triple Boot: Windows 7 | OSX 10.6 | XP |

If your new to linux by all means save yourself some trouble and go for the netbook remix. But ya, if you've used gnome before, and know your way around a traditional linux desktop definitely stick with the standard edition. The remix is just hassle to me. But my neighbor who of course is an average non tech acquainted windows user likes the netbook remix better. |

On another 9.04 note...any of you who have installed it on your 10v....did you have a problem with the volume being really low? I checked the master volume and it was all the way up...that is what kept me from keeping 9.04 on it... ![]() |

HOWEVER my main problem is with the trackpad: using two fingers simultaneously (as in drag and drop) was absolutely fine on the stock Dell 8.04 setup, but now I've installed 9.04 it's more or less impossible! There don't seem to be any clear pointers on the forums - does anyone have an answer to this? I've also noticed that the volume has dropped; I'm not sure why this is, it doesn't bother me a great deal but it's an interesting side-effect. |
