Default WiFi antennas in the 10v - 07-15-2009, 10:48 AM

Does anyone know if the 10v is manufactured with the 3rd antenna wire for 802.11n even if the the unit was ordered with a 802.11g card? I'm not fond of Broadcom based cards and would rather order a unit with the cheapest card and substitute it with an aftermarket Intel 5100/5300 series card.

Thanks in advance!

The N card only requires two antennae, (and I'm speculating one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz) they appear to be both there according to the service manual. Another Dell notebook I have has the wifi antenna without any card.

The 10v is wired with two antennas not three. Notebook wireless cards since the Intel 2100 eries have been with two antennas, you can use three for the 5300 but I think that you might be able to get away with using just two.

You can use the Intel 5300 (half height) card in the 10v with the two antennas and it will connect at 300 Mbps to a suitable router.
