Mini 1011 (Mini10v) is completely diff than Mini 1010 (Mini10)

Hi, I just joined the forum. I've been reading a whole lot of this information for the better part of a week and I'm incredibly intrigued. I'm about to take the plunge on trying to make a Hackintosh, but I'm undecided on which model to get (Mini 9 or Mini 10v). I really kind of like that the Mini 10v has the 120gig HD because I'd love to dual boot Win 7 and OSX. I really appreciate all the hard work and info you're all sharing. I just have a few questions:

1. Do you have a personal recommendation on one of the mini 9's that are left or should I go mini 10v, or does it matter that much?

2. With the mini 10v, what's the status on using it with an external monitor. Do we have confirmation that it works (usefully)?

3. Am I correct in understanding that with the exception of the additional sound drivers that need to be installed, a mini 10v hackintosh works essentially the same way as mini 9 hackintosh and works the same as well? Is there any appreciable difference?

4. Do I understand that both the base wireless-g and the upgraded wireless-n cards both work?

I wouldn't use this package. It installs a lot of NC10 specific kexts to /S/L/E which you don't really want on a Mini 10v as they are already covered by DellEFI and you will no longer have a vanilla OSX.

Quicksilver and some scripts for altering the brightness on a NC10 are installed as well.

The only kext you need should be the AppleHDA.kext from the package.

This sounds important.

I downloaded it, and it unzips as a .kext file. I have no 10v yet, so can't comment on the actual use of this kext.

1. Have you used used this on a Mini 10v yet? Results ?

2. I suspect that many members here do not know what to do with a raw .kext file.
It would be very helpful if you could elaborate a little on your experience with the file and how you applied it.

If just that kext works, then that's beautiful. Unfortunately, I'm still learning OS X, so I have no clue how to extract that file that I linked to. I'll leave it for now until someone confirms, then I will change my first post.

Unfortunately I don't have a 10v yet. I'm still arguing with me if I could life with the lesser resolution and the shorter battery life (the 6 cell hunchback is not an option for me).

I'm beginning to suspect this as well.

The easiest way would be Kext Helper. Never used it myself I'm more a Terminal type of guy.

It would be best if bmaltais could integrate it into DellEFI. I read somewhere that there's a plan to integrate a hardware recognition to install the right kexts. So it should be in the works.

If you want more to know about installing kexts or hackintoshing in general, InsanelyMac Forum is a great resource for that.

I've already added that kext into DellEFI 1.2a6. Once I'm finished it up a bit, I'll release the new changes. It does detect which device it's being installed on, so if someone could give tell my what "sysctl hw.model" output's in the terminal as well as a copy of kextstat output when everything is working, that would be very helpful.
