I've also tried to remove EVERYTHING that says HDA or Audio or Sound, etc., but everytime I restart I get the intermitent sound back (until the computer goes to sleep) and the devices are still appearing in the input and output areas of sound preference.

The idea is to remove voodoo audio kext if you have it installed.

Otherwise just install your old Apple HDA, as well as HDA enabler, Legacy Apple HDA, and VerbHelper with the Kext helper application and you should be all set.

Here's what I delete: IOAudioFamily, HDAEnabler, AppleHDA, VerbHelper, and LegacyAppleHDA.
I used DellEFI 1.2a5 to delete the dsdt.aml file (NetbookInstaller doesn't seem to have a dsdt.aml delete function) and reboot. Then install the five kexts, downloaded from the site, again with Kext Helper. Regenerate the dsdt.aml file. Reboot. See if that works for you.

I am running 10.5.7. I had installed voodoo kexts. I looked for them by doing a search and tossed them along with the voodoo pref pane. I downloaded the 4 new kexts installed them and rebooted. 3 times on 3 10v's its worked without a hitch.

I planned to try 10,5,8 and see what happens but it looks like a major headache. I am staying 10.5.7.

I did exactly what you suggested. Removed the listed KEXTs, used DellEFI 1.2a5 to delete the dsdt.aml file, rebooted, BUT...

When I rebooted, there were still devices listed in the Input and Output areas of the Sound preference.

I still proceeded and installed the 4 KEXTs described on this method using the Kext Helper, regenerated the dsdt.aml file, BUT...

When I rebooted the computer, it is stucked in the gray screen with the Apple logo and the progress circle rotating non-stop.

I would appreciate any further suggestions. Thanks.

Does anyone know why my osx 10.5.6 won't load icon 2-7? I can see Finder but it will not launch. If i double click on it, it prevent me from shutting down, restart, etc. Thanks.

it seems like there are a lot of audio problems with the 10v. :\
i am thinking of going this hackintosh route, would it preferred just to go with a mini 9?
though i wish OSX would be perfect on the 10v as it is with the 9

For anyone that doesn't have sound working and this is going to sound so stupid but I know it was my mistake....unzip the kext before dragging and dropping in to kext helper.

I didn't have any I/O audio devices and I did exactly what the instructions said:

3) Launch Kext Helper b7, and then drag and drop the kext you just nabbed the Kext Helper b7 app. Easy Install, reboot, and you should be good.

If you're a noob like me you follow instructions to a 'T' and it doesn't say to unzip the kext. I first just did a drag and drop while the kext was still zipped and it looked like installed. I even got the 'keep your fingers crossed' message. No dice. I tried again but this time I unzipped the kext first and voila.

right back here again, thought i was done with this thread.....installed my new 64gb ssd..course it wiped out audio settings.....redid what i did befoer which of course didn't work...when i look in About this MAC i get no sound devices at all listed...just audio ID 272.....did all 5 kext after deleting them...nothin....also sometimes i get a 12 audio ID and sometimes a 272...i may just reload as this is from a timemachine backup and might be borked.

is there a reason my hdenabler keeps vanishing upon reboot...that probably has something to do with it.

ok, got the sound to detect but everything is grayed out and muted.

should i delete the virtualaudiodriver.kext or leave it alone...

uninstalled all kext.....rebooted....ran extensions and rebuild of dtsd.....rebooted.....reinstalled all kexts.....rebooted....nothin.

has to be something with 10.5.8....or maybe the way i used time machine after loading..........wonder if i need to be using a vanilla 10.5.8 apple kext
