Hey all, two questions. (1) Will the audio-out/headphone jack work on the mini10v w/ this install method? I ask b/c of Mac OS X Netbook Compatibility Chart (Updated July 2009) | Boing Boing Gadgets, which gives no info on that function. (2) What sizes of USB drives are you using? Will two 4Gb drives suffice? When I install I will attempt to compile all these directions in a PDF which I'll post, reading 60pg forums more than once hurts.

I can only speak for my own experience, but I am posting this from my Mini 10v running OS X 10.5.7 now. Everything works like a charm for me. Audio works through the headphone port and the speaker. It crackles very slightly for a few minutes after coming out of sleep, but it's not a big deal, I just watched an entire movie and I've had this thing running and sleeping for days now. I have not yet tried the mic at all.

I don't think a 4gb stick is large enough. The OS X image was like 7.3gb or so. The second stick can be small, mine was only 512mb.

I followed these videos btw but used dell efi 1.2a5

Where are you getting the updates?
I just read through all 42 pages three days ago, and it seemed like headphones, mic and track pad all still had issues.
I wanted to buy the mini 10v but with these issues ordered the mini9 instead.
Now I read that you have had it running for days with "everything works like a charm" (except for possibly the mic)
Is there another thread with "fixes"?
I was thinking of ordering another mini9 since the sale ends tomorrow morning, and it was said this is the last chance to ever buy them new. But if all the issues have been fixed with the 10v I may just get one of them.

I didn't do anything special. I followed the instructions in that youtube video to a T but installed DellEFI 1.2a5 because 1.1 wasn't installing properly. For the sound I installed the driver on the first post in this thread with no issues. I have no trackpad issues at all. I tried the custom one (from Merklot I think) but found it to "touchy" so I removed it. I can't tap to click but it works fine. It goes to sleep, wakes up instantly, wifi is strong (never dropped a connection - I have the standard G card, not the N upgrade). Heck I've even got istats showing me the netbook's temperature in the menubar!

Perhaps I got lucky... I've read of other experiences where there were issues with hardware and stuff, but... not sure. The fact that I used a purchased Retail copy of 10.5.6 to do the install may have helped. I was able to do a standard software update to 10.5.7 via the built-in software update.

My biggest challenge was getting the retail disc copied to a usb stick, if you can believe that. If I had a usb dvd drive it would have saved me hours

I think it's safe to buy a 10v and try it. It's nicer than the mini 9, bigger keyboard for my big hands, etc. I got mine with a 120gb harddrive vs a ssd because I wanted the extra space because this is quickly turning into my main computer (when hooked up to a 20" widescreen monitor and external mouse and keyboard). It's a delight!

PS: I upgraded to 2gb of ram also.

Oh, and the trackpad can be a little sensitive especially when clicking and dragging, but I find using two fingers to click-n-drag (left index to click, right index to drag) works decent enough. I don't get along well with touchpads in general and found this no worse than any other. It doesn't do any of the scrolling that I think it's supposed to do in Windows, not sure. I cannot access the mouse/keyboard preferences, so I can't check, but I can get around without too much trouble.

Lastly, the Fn keys work as well, except for the mute button (it shows the icon as muted but sound still comes), so I just turn it down using the decrease button until it is mute.

Huh, strange, I have the exact same bluetooth adapter and it doesn't do a thing for me. Nothing, no entry in the menu bar, no entry in the system preferences.

You can find a more detailed explaination in other threads. Basically the Mac uses UT (universal time) as the clock, marks files times with UT, etc. It then displays any time related item (like info for a file or a clock) by converting from UT to local time. A PC keeps localtime.

Although BootCamp won't work, the BootCamp control panel for the PC side of things will fix the problem keeping time in sync between the 2 systems. You just take your OS X install disc and mount it when your running the PC side of things and you'll find the BootCamp control panel to install.

In those other threads you will also find other ways of fixing the time issue.

Simple registry hack:

Random Bits of Geekiness: Dual Boot Time Issues

I've got the fix there, which I think I had Googled to find, as well as finding it here.
