I just got OSX 10.5.6 installed. So far it's acting quite a bit different from this guide or the video guide on Youtube I followed...

For example, the initial setup wizard did run, wifi isn't detected so far, and Dell EFI 1.1 fails to install. Screen rez is still at 800x600. It also hangs about every second time when booting with the usb drive and -f.

Trying to get in now to get the error message so I can google and/or post it.

I know this reply is a month after your post, but i will answer for the sake of anyone pouring through these posts to find answers.

Use the tab key and the space bar. It will take some experimenting to get the number of tabs before hitting the space bar and achieving success. Sorry, I have only installed it once on my 10v, so I didn't think to write down how many tabs before hitting the space bar for each screen.

When you boot to the language selection screen, all you need to do is hit enter. On the next screen you will need to access DiskUtilities from the drop down menu. When DiskUtilities comes up (and this is also true for Terminal and the other programs you can launch from that drop down menu) click on the green radio button with the plus '+' sign in it. this will resize that window and bring its input fields and buttons within range of at least being positioned w/scroll bars.

As for the remaining OS setup screens, it is usually brtween 3 and 5 tabs before hitting the space bare brings the desired result.

When you launch OS X for the first time the OS X Setup Assistant will not run because screen resolution will be set at 640x480. This is okay because as soon as you install DellEFI it will be correct after reboot.

As for DellEFI versions--version 1.2a5 works with OS X updates through 10.5.6, but the video will not work with 10.5.7 and verion 1.2a5. Install ve3rsion 1.11 before rebooting after OS X 10.5.7 update and everything will be peachy when you reboot.

In response to my own post above, the error I was getting was "Could not install Extensions. Error 1" during the Dell EFI 1.1 install.

Googled it and it looked bleak... took a chance at Dell EFI 1.2a5 and it worked great!

I now have wifi working, graphics at 1024x600, and the boot loader works so I can boot without the usb drive.

Only thing I care about that I need to make work is the sound, but that's later

I've heard this a few times. Has anyone tried having an external monitor plugged in upon the first boot to try and get the setup to run?

Simple question, it seems like tapping on the touchpad isn't working right now, I have to use the buttons. Is that an easy fix or likely to break everything else?

Hi everyone, I realize you are all discussing using Leopard but I would like to switch it up for a second. I understand using Tiger is kind of a dead OS these days but I love it and I would much rather prefer to using it over Leopard if I have the option to. I was only wondering if everyone else was having an insanely difficult time loading/installing Tiger on their Mini 10v? Has anyone even tried it other than me? I have been trying my butt off for about a week now and I just cannot get it to install or even load up the install disc at all. It could be the disc version I have (Kalyway 10.4.10) but I don't know, it has never failed me before and yet even on the Mini, which is very closely related, hardware-wise to a real 1st gen Macbook, it will NOT work. I just don't get it. It keeps panicking out on me.

Please someone inform me if you have it working as I would VERY MUCH like to know which disc version you used to get the job done. Thanks a ton for any help/info on the subject as I know it isn't really talked about much thesedays.

You should be able to check "clicking" in the Mouse pane of System Preferences, or install Meklort's trackpad drivers.

Sorry, but I don't think you'll have much luck with Tiger. Our kernel extensions and bootloader are simply not designed for the Tiger kernel. I would think it would be possible though if you used something like Kalyway and avoided all the DellEFI stuff, but I've never tried it. Good luck.

Yeah, I kind of already knew the extensions and bootloader are gonna be no help, i'm going back and using everything old school ;p. I think I may have discovered the issue but I simply don't have the 'tools' to be sure. I believe it's the USB driver built into the old Tiger discs and stuff that aren't compatible with the Mini's hardware, which is causing any USB based booting hardware to read and boot up for awhile then hang and do the whole 'waiting for boot device' crap. I believe that is what it is but I don't know where to find a replacement driver for it. Like I said, I 'think' thats the issue but I could be wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I'm going to keep trying until I either ghetto rig my way into it work or I kill myself from exhaustion

If anyone has any info, tips, clues, etc as to ways of possibly getting this to work faster, please let me know as I know for a fact I can't think of everything, sometimes everyone forget stuff, even sometimes to simplest stuff. Thanks in advance. Back to work on it now.
