I've installed Xcode on my Mac, and there are undoubtedly threads showing
how to use it to compile a working NBI.
You're right: there are threads on 10.6.7 --> 10.6.8. I found them using Google

On Saturday, I opened up my 10v and bumped up the RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB. It was easily one of the more harrowing experiences of it, especially when an internal screw hole broke off. But, I can happily say that it's accepted the RAM with no questions asked.
I also fixed Chameleon, since I had broken it with my Windows 8 installation (btw that works awesome). I'm gonna have to reinstall OS X again...

Hackingtosh is very much alive and kicking, Mountain Lion is not far away and a lot of people are running the developer preview.
I think the reason it's quiet on the 10v front is that it's an old machine now and is only capable of running Snow Leopard.
I think most people who wanted a 10v hack have done it and running along fine with it now.
Have you just got a 10v to hack? there is all the info you need here to get up and running.

I did 11 Mini 9 hacks in 2009 for friends and family who couldn't afford modern (Intel) Macs but the cost of battery replacements turned most of them off. I still use mine occasionally but the keyboard size and layout really doesn't work well for me and an iPad gets most of the cafe/bus/train use now.
I have a new Macbook Air which I love but don't want to take it on an extended backpacking trip through several countries so I'm looking for a 10v with an n280. As crabhunter noted it seems the lack of conversation is because everyone who wanted one already has one and without 64-bit Snow Leopard is the end of the line for MacOS. That's OK with me, 10.7 had good though not essential features but nowhere near the leaps there were going from 10.3 to 10.4 to 10.5. I've used Mountain Lion for over a month now but aside from Airplay it's decidedly underwhelming, which is fine as 10.6 and beyond pricing reflects the smaller upgrades.
For size, features and price the 10v will be hard to beat until the used prices of 11" Macbook Airs come down but that won't be for another 2-3 years. To see where hackintoshing in general is going look at tonymacx86's site.
