Anybody else know of a different tutorial? I also gleaned alot of info from this thread The FINAL 10.6.8 update thread. maybe you can go from 10.6.5 to 10.6.8? Oh and I think the 10.6.3 tutorial requires bios a06. mine has bios a06. |

Mine takes about 48 seconds to boot, I can't hibernate (but i can sleep), I can't mirror my vga output and flash video playback is just about tolerable. Besides those niggles everything works fine. To update to 10.6.8 I downloaded the 10.6.8 combo update from apple. I installed it and and before restarting I ran this .pkg file http://blog.nawcom.com/legacy_kernel-10.6.8.v2.pkg.zip to swap out the apple kernel for the legacy kernel. I also ran NBI 20100616212351. If it says unsupported device when you run it you need to right click on the nbi file, open the package contents and edit the machine.plist file. which is situated at contents/resources/supportfiles. open it and scroll down to this part </dict> <key>Dell Mini 10v</key> <dict> <key>Support Files</key> <string>Dell Mini 10v</string> <key>Extensions Directory</key> <string>Mini10vExt</string> <key>Model Name</key> <string>Inspiron 1011</string> and change <string>Inspiron 1011</string> to what ever model it says you are running. Mine is <string>MacBook4,1</string> but it could be MacBook2,1 or any other model in fact. Click on the apple symbol on the top left hand corner of the screen, then click on about this mac, then click on more info. you will find your model there. Once you have run nbi, reboot. You may then have problems with your sound and putting your 10v to sleep will crash it. you need to get kext helper b7 from http://cheetha.net/ and use it to install this kext http://blog.nawcom.com/SleepEnabler.kext.10.6.8.zip. Unzip the kext and drag it into the window in kext helper, type in your password and click easy install. I found that kext helper crashes after install on my machine. force quit and restart. when you restart it may stay on a blue screen for a while. just leave it to do its thing and you will eventually get there. Now check for updates, install them and restart. you should be good to go from there. I don't know why but installing SleepEnabler.kext seems to fix my sound issue. If you are brave enough to attempt it good luck. |
