Default Black screen with white censor - 10-06-2011, 10:52 PM

I currently have 10.6.7 on my mini 10v and haven't installed any new updates in the last few months but now every time I start my mini after the dell screen it just shows a black screen with a white censor but if I boot via the NBI 0.8.4RC1 USB then I can boot to the os. I've tried to install NBI 0.8.4RC1 and NBI 351 but still the same problem.

Do you mean a flashing underscore in the upper left corner? That means that the BIOS found a disk boot sector but that no partition was bootable.

Yes that's the one but how can I fix this? as I can still access the OS using the NBI usb.

Thanks.

When you installed (well, actualy run) the nbi, on the target, which disk partition did you choose?
Did you also check install chameleon boot loader checkbox?
Make sure you have correct bios settings, especially the boot device settings.

Hi, I've got dual boot (mac 10.6.7 and win 7, sorry I forgot to mention it as I never use win 7) when I use the nbi usb I choose the macintosh HD partition and I did tick the install chameleon box when I installed the NBI.

In bios the hard disk is set to boot 1st.

Do you remember what you did last time before you got that problem?

Edit:
Can you boot to the windows 7 and use dispart to check the EFI partition, does it still exist? Is it the active partition on your hard drive?

I honestly don't remember what I did, I haven't updated it since 10.6.7, I've booted into windows 7 and active partition is the macintosh hd.

What about the EFI partition?
My hard drive partitions:
EFI partition
Windows 7 partition
Data/Files partition
Mac OS X partition
The active partition on mine is the EFI partition.

I used to have dual boot problem, so then I created the efi partition as first partition on my hard drive and set is as active partition, never get any dual boot problem after that.
