I've clearly forgotten more than I thought. I still have the retail OSX that I bought - but no mac with a DVD-drive so I'm gonna have to do this via windows.

If someone would be kind enough to point me to what I need to do to prepare my USB drive again, I'd be really grateful. can I just follow Oscar's instructions:
OS X 10.6.3 Retail DVD-->USB no MAC; A GUIDE?

They seem to be for 10.6.3... but does it matter?

REALLY sorry. Out of this for too long so would really appreciate pointers.
It will work for 10.6.0 retail dvd.

It worked for me!
Thank you. It worked for me too ! I went all the way from 10.6 to 10.6.7 (Combo Update). Is it worth to upgrade to 10.6.8?

I've seen some threads that people got 10.6.8 working for them, and it looked like they went through hell to make it work. That isn't worth it to me to maybe not have sound or wifi, and whatever other problems they were saying.

If you want to try it, there are some extensive threads around this forum, and I think the "OS X for Dell Mini 9" folder also... If you're going to try it, I'd do it before you add any applications/pics/music etc. to your 10.6.7 setup because if it doesn't work, you're probably going to have to reinstall 10.6 fresh and go to 10.6.7 again. Not saying don't do it, just beware!

Edit--also I'm not sure that 10.6.8 was a very essential update...you'll have to check!

As far as I can tell, the 10.6.8 update is just to help prep a Mac in order to install 10.7.0 Lion, which we can't install on our mini's.

I tried 10.6.8 on one of my mini's and it was not very stable so I went back to 10.6.7.

I've updated to 10.6.8, but I prefer to use the kernel and the system.kext from 10.6.7 instead of using the patched kernel.
