Default Replacement Battery for Mini 10V (1011) - 05-01-2011, 02:06 AM

The original 3-cell Dell battery that came with my Mini gave up the ghost without warning.
Not very many cycles on it, but I'm past the warranty period.

So I was scouting around for a reasonably priced replacement and found a lot of posts, both here and elsewhere, that many replacement batteries are not recognized by the Mini 1011 as valid and thus they can't be charged.

Looking on ebay I came across the seller quality_top (Ebay item 150514420385 among others). What he wrote in the listing sounded good, so did the price.
But I was still leery.........
So I emailed one of his customers who had bought a battery for the 1011 and asked if it worked and how well......not really expecting a reply - ebayers seem to be like that.
Anyway, this fellow emailed me back, turns out he lives in England, and tells me that the battery works just great.
So I took the plunge and ordered a 6-cell battery from this seller.

Took a little while to get to me in Canada, maybe two weeks, I didn't actually check, but it showed up three days ago and I tried it out.
The Dell Mini recognizes it and charges it with no problem. The battery is brand new, shows one charge cycle; it was about half charged when I received it.
After it was fullu charged, the run time that OS X calculated was 6 hours 40 minutes - initially it came up as around 5 hrs 50 minutes but as I started to use the Mini the time was recalculated several times and went all the way up to the 6 hr 40 minute mark.

So - for anyone needing a battery, I can certainly recommend the one that this seller is offering.
He also has 3-cell batteries but for the difference in price, I opted for the 6-cell one.

Hope this info helps someone.
Just wanted to give something back because this site has been great in helping people including myself to resolve Dell Mini OS X problems.

Hi,

thanks for the informative post! You say the customer you emailed was in the UK? On the listing it says USA, Canada and Mexico. I've emailed the seller about UK delivery, and i'll report back.

Cheers

Yes, I found that a bit odd as well since the UK isn't listed as a country he ships to, but maybe he made an exception or has changed the 'ship-to' countries since that transaction by the UK purchaser.
Ihave run the battery down once and recharged it just to see if anything odd would happen.
So far so good...

Theoretically, if the value declared is over $20.- Canadian customs can charge the sales tax, so that's a possible extra cost.
But for those small items, I have never had to pay that here - this battery just showed up in my mail box one day - no extra cost.
