Default Upgrading to 10.6.7 from 10.6.3 - 04-19-2011, 08:05 PM

So I purchased a Mini 10v this past summer and upgraded to 2GB of RAM. The install of 10.6.3 went well, however, when I updated iTunes, it crashed the system. I simply reinstalled from square one and held off on the iTunes update. As I am a student, I have been reluctant to do any upgrades during the school year, as I need my computer each day. However, I do want to upgrade to 10.6.7 now that it's the end of the academic year.

As someone very new to the hackintosh world, what do I need to be aware of? Do I need to upgrade one version at a time, or can I go straight from 10.6.3 to 10.6.7. Also, any thoughts on how to upgrade to iTunes 10 without it crashing? Any help would be appreciated - I read of "kexts" often but I do not know what one is nor how to replace them.

Older versions of NBI wont do .3->.7 . First install 0.8.5pre on .3 and get that happy, then you can use the apple updater after that.

mini 9 | 2GB RAM | 16GB STEC SDD | BIOS A06, USB Legacy OFF | No Bluetooth | OSX 10.6.7 | NBI 0.8.5pre w/ ALC268 | Broadcom2Airport
MINI Cooper '02 | 1.6L | CVT | Moonroof | Red w/ White Stripes

Want the ALC268 mini 9 sound fix? Get it here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2377323/Mini9SoundPatch.zip

I found using NBI 0.8.4 ...51 works as well. Just remember to run NBI BEFORE installing the combo update. After booting into 10.6.7, rerun NBI. Not sure if that last step is really needed but that is what most of us seem to be doing. My 10v (BIOS A05) works flawlessly running with 10.6.7.

I agree about using NetbookInstaller 20100616212351 - 0.8.5pre still has issues. Use the 10.6.7 Combo Update from the Apple Downloads page (not SW Update) - it will update anything from 10.6 - 10.6.6. I'm not sure about running NBI before running the update, but I've had the most success running it immediately after the update is complete - before restarting the computer.

I don't know why updating iTunes would crash the system. I've not had that problem.

Since you use your computer everyday, I would recommend creating a USB flash drive install of OS X. It's saved me numerous headaches when updating.

I ran NBI x51 before the update and after the update (before rebooting), and it boots into a KP. Tried running NBI again in safe mode, but still the same thing.

Windows 7 is on another partition. Does that have anything to do with it?

Default Software update 10.6.7 on the 28th of May - 05-29-2011, 05:59 PM

I just ran the update after running 8.5 and now my graphics is marginal. However when I go back and run netbook installer with all the long numbers, graphics are restored however i get the intermittent sound issue. 8.5 solves the hibernate image issue and the sound but I don't like the degraded graphics.

I ran the itunes update with no problems, and I do run netbook installer both before and after any software updates, and that has kept this little machine out of trouble.

Any thoughts or can you point me in the right direction for a fix?
