Default is nickelodeon version the same? is osx install too complex for a novice user? - 02-24-2011, 08:25 PM

Hey people,
I'm new here and I love what I'm reading. I'm needing some guidance, though. I've been reading so much about the Hackintosh experience, and it seems perfect for me, but I'm a little leery.
I'm a die-hard mac guy and a documentary filmmaker. Been a mac guy for years, and no I don't need to edit video on it but since switching to an HD SLR camera that records to SD cards I need something super portable with a little more drive space/ web access/ word processing, that I can dump my SD cards onto until I get home to my trusty macpro.
I'm sharp but I'm no programmer, though, so I'm a little afraid of the process. For one is the dell 1011 mean the same thing as the 10v (seems like it's called the same by some people) and also I like the nickelodeon version and it seems identical to the 10v, anyone know if it'll do just as well, since I can get that easiest? Should I go ahead and do this? (get the nickelodean and install sno-leopard to use for mobile camera SD card dumping and internet, or is this only for hardcore tinkerers?) Does it need constant maintanence or will I be fine once I get the os to work? Thanks for any advice.

1011=10v, the v stands for value. Nickelodeon edition is indeed a 1011 or 10v.

I have several minis and find them very easy to keep requiring very little tinkering. Of course I do sometimes tinker just for tinkering's sake.

I would call myself a Novice, and delved into the hackintosh experience last spring. The directions on this site are very clear. I would suggest reading the links I've posted in my signature. Enjoy
