I've read posts suggesting the use of hibernation mode 3. My experience, however has not yielded any success with mode 3, even after unchecking secure Virtual Memory. My success has been with mode 5, leaving secure virtual memory checked, which is the default anyway. a few days ago I wrote a script for putting the system directly to hibernation, bypassing the 'sleep' phase. Startup OS X in ~30 seconds ( : I have since continued to play around a bit with the hibernation settings and have successfully tweaked the settings so the process is automated. here's the terminal output, using pmset -g: pmset -g Active Profiles: AC Power -1 Battery Power -1* Currently in use: hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage hibernatemode 5 disksleep 5 sleep 3 displaysleep 1 lidwake 0 ttyskeepawake 1 halfdim 1 in this profile, notice that the profiles -1 and -1* are user defined profiles the display will switch off after one minute sleep will begin aster 3 minutes and hibernation will occur after 5 minutes. (disksleep) notice the lidwake value is 0 (false) i picked that up from another post that suggested lidwake was causing issues. you can specify values using the sudo command. also, you can specify different values for battery power, versus AC power. use pmset -b for the battery profile, and pmset -c for the AC profile. example terminal entry, battery profile: sudo pmset -b hibernatemode 5 displaysleep 1 sleep 3 disksleep 5 this will set mode 5, sleep the display at 1 minute, sleep the system at 3 minutes, and hibernate at 5 minutes. example terminal entry, AC power profile: sudo pmset -c hibernatemode 5 displaysleep 3 sleep 5 disksleep 10 Now you have custom settings depending on whether or not your mini is plugged in. pmset -g custom lists the profile changes you've made. to change the settings globally, use pmset -a (if you don't care to specify different values for battery power operation). in any case, I hope this will be useful information to those of you continuing to seek hibernation. cheers. edit: this keeps being trickier than i expect. so while the above information works well for when the mini is left idle, i have found that mode 5 puts it straight to hibernation when manually put to sleep, either by closing the lid, or by selecting sleep from the apple menu. i had expected the behavior to be the same as when idle. that is, i expected that if i have disksleep set to 3 minutes, manually putting the mini to sleep would still leave 3 minutes to wake before going to hibernation. unfortunately this is not the case. gotta keep tweaking these settings... / SL 10.6.6 NBI 0.8.4 Special/ Linux Mint |Please use my Dropbox Invite link: http://db.tt/4z2wwup |
