Default Problem with booting into 10.6.2 after Software Update (Cross on Apple logo boot) - 01-27-2011, 05:17 AM

So I've been running 10.6.2 pretty smoothly for the past year or so. I decided to update partially through Software Update (just to update stuff like iTunes and iLife).

After I updated it, the next boot sequence, it gets to the Apple logo with the rotating circle. However, after a while it just has the cross sign like "DO not enter" hovering just above the Apple logo and it does not go any further than that.

I can get into recovery=y, so I've tried to use the combo updater to go to 10.6.4 and run the latest NBI, delete some of the extra GeForce stuff, but nothing is working. I suppose I could back everything up and reinstall, but are there any other things I can try?

1. are you using NBI ending in ..51? from first post in update 10.6.4 thread

2. in the past, I've had the strange experience that updating iTunes breaks a bunch of disk permissions. boot using recovery=y, and verify permissions, and if need, repair permissions.

and run NBI again after repair.
