Default How to Update NBI in a Bootable USB - 01-25-2011, 09:53 PM

I have a 10v that was on 10.6.2, and i tried updating it to 10.6.6 and i obviously did it the wrong way because it wont boot. The steps i took are the following:

Downloaded and ran NBI 0.8.5pre (Downloads - netbook-installer - Project Hosting on Google Code)
Updated to 10.6.6 via software update
Rebooted and got no luck.

Now i still have my old Bootable USB drive that i used to originally install hackintosh, but this has NBI 0.8.3 on it.

My two questions are, can i recover my old system without doing it all over, and if now how do i update NBI to 0.8.4 on my USB drive.

Could be hard to recover. No need to update the NBI on your drive, just reinstall the way it is (I'm assuming you maybe have 10.6.0 on your USB given the use of NBM 8.3).....and after install run the newer NBI first before updating OS X. Others are more familiar, but I would stick with the patched version of NBI 8.4 for now.....the one with the long series of numbers in the name that I refer to as NBI Special.

That's what I've done anyway, my install drive hasn't been touched since Snow Leopard first came out, I just run the newer NBI and then Combo update to whichever version of OS X I want.

Is it possible to update the NBI on the flash drive?
If so, how?

Yes. On your NBI flash drive replace:
(You need to mount Preboot.dmg and Postboot.img to get it )

Mini 10v, BIOS A06, OS X 10.6.6, Linux-Mint, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD
