@Felix: I have not yet tried re-running NBI. That will be the first thing I try but first I need to back the machine up (which means first I need to clear off an NTFS formatted backup drive which means first I need to... blah blah.
) That said, I am nearly ready to give that a shot and I'll post my results back here.
@pcmaniac: The system profiler only shows the info that I posted above. It does not appear to recognize that there is even a battery installed. The energy save pref pane says 0% battery charge.
When I get home tonight, I'll check the DSDT information and report back. Is there anything specific I should be looking for?
As to the UI issue, I don't think that is the case (esp since the "show battery icon" checkbox unchecks itself fractions of a second after I check it). The icon never appears in the menu bar at all, so I am unable to try it in different locations (even 3rd party menu bar battery icons do not appear). Finally, the missing battery info in the system profiler makes me think this is a deeper issue.
