Default Need help after crashing during update - 11-15-2010, 02:29 AM

My Mini 10v has been working fine until I tried to do some updating. It wasn't the OS but some other software. The offered update included 4 pieces including the OS. I did the first 2 with no problem. The 3rd one I THINK was update to JAVA and it crashed the system. Wasn't going to do the OS update until I got home and made sure I had the latest NBI updater, but too late now. Was getting the kernel panic. Started trying to go through the steps to recover but couldn't get to the recovery screen. I'm not even sure I have my original install disk (I used an external HD instead of a thumb drive). My system has 3 partitions with dual boot to MAC OS or WinXP. Or at least it did. During one of my attempts to boot, it did some kind of Dell diagnostic and said it couldn't boot into another system and now it doesn't come up with the boot choices when it starts. It only goes directly to Windows. I think it's the chameleon it is skipping now.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. I don't keep anything on this computer that needs to be saved so I can redo the whole thing if necessary. Hopefully it will be easier than that by repairing it though.

Thanks for any help,

SkyDawg

I have done this a couple of times. If the Dell recovery partition is activated it deactivates the Mac partition. Reactivate it with EASEUS while in XP, reboot and all will be as before.

Thanks. That should get me back to the panic kernel and I can work from there. Got company for a few days so probably won't get to it right away but I'll update as soon as I do.

Thanks again,

Holding down the shift key and then typing "recovery=y" (no quotes) at the gray screen should get to the boot screen, you can download NBI from there and run it. I installed the Java update with no problems BTW. Hope this works for you of course YMMV.

Glad to hear it. Nifty little netbook, isn't it?
