| Guru Posts: 1,997 Join Date: Apr 2009 | Much HD video encoded in the AVC/h.264 format. Which can be very difficult to decode on a weak computer without specialized video decoding hardware (= many netbooks). CoreAVC is a Windows DirectShow codec for decoding h.264/AVC video. I've never used it, but CoreAVC is supposed to be pretty quick, so it may help you. You can also try disabling the h.264 loop filter in VLC (See here). Quality will decline, but speed should increase. If you're re-encoding your own videos and using h.264, try disabling CABAC when encoding. Quality for a given bitrate will suffer, but decoding will be easier. But if you're encoding videos for the Mini, you'll be better off cutting the resolution down. Good luck.
