10.5 is Leopard, different animal
The Leopard upgrade disk was just that, upgrade only, while the Snow Leopard Upgrade is a full operating system i.e, "Retail Disk".
Of course there was a full "Retail Version" of Leopard as well, but it looks like that's not what you have. This caused some problems back then because when people had to reinstall their operating systems they would actually have to reload Tiger first and then apply the upgrade to get to Leopard.
