Default Nickelodeon 10v Hackintosh install attemp - 09-19-2010, 11:38 PM

Hi guys,

I am new to this but was able to buy a mini 10v nickelodeon edition. It has the a06 bios but I havea read with the new bootmaker it is ok. I have made my thumb drive and tried to install it today. It got about half way through and rebooted. What went wrong?

What did you use to make your thumb drive install disk?

I used the snow leopard upgrade disk that first came out and netbook maker 0.8.4 pre.app.

Ok, It did the same thing again but I tried booting from the install disk and it is working great. The install seemed to freeze half way through, stayed there for a long time, then the apple "wheel" appeared and then it rebooted. I never got the successful install screen.

I am going through the welcome set up wizard now. So far it seems ever thing is working.

Can this do updates?

Yes, up to the latest right now, 10.6.4
But run NBI again before you update - don't ask me why.

what do you mean run NBI, NetBook Installer? Is there a guide for doing software updates? Do you have to turn anything off?

I notice you are running 10V 10.6.4....any problems?

Thanks for the information. I will give it a try tonight. I still don't know why it looked like it didn't go through but not important. Got my MiniMac going now.

Now to learn about dual booting and install windows 7 beside it.

Any other tips or pointers I need to know about the minidell 10v?

Thanks for the reply, your time and advice.

I think the key thing to remember is that the MiniDell 10V is not a Mac.
All you are doing is running the Mac OS, specifically Snow Leopard on hardware meant to support only Windows and Linux.

So, the few things I have found so far -

I don't think any of the special Mac boot up options work, at least none of the ones I tried so far. Not surprising since you're booting up from a Bios.
It might be useful if someone created a listing of those with possible work-arounds unless it exists already.

I also couldn't get iMovie to work because the vertical screen resolution of the Mini 10V is too small at 600 pixels (some people even have the old screen with even fewer pixels)

The trackpad on the 10V is very poor - I'm using a mouse instead. The trackpad will recognize two-finger swiping, but not three, also recognizes tap-to-click.

To make use of a remote CD/DVD you need to add two programming lines via terminal. I assume that is true for the Mac as well except for the Mac Air.

But in general, the Mini runs exceptionally well with SL, much better than I expected and pretty much all features I tried so far work.
Sleed seems to be one of the bigger issues, but to me that is really a trivial feature.

Yeah - I find that a lot of fun myself - I probably wouldn't want to depend on the Mini 10v for anything critical, but it's enjoyable to play around and find out what works and what doesn't.
