First up, I understand you need a retail copy of mac osx, will this do the job? Mac OS X Snow Leopard v. 10.6 (Mac DVD): Amazon.co.uk: Software and secoundly, when you do this do you get iLife?

Hi there meziathol,

I bought my retail DVD of Snow Leopard from exactly the same place as you (amazon.co.uk) - it cost around £20 in February. The version that I received was 10.6 and I had absolutely no problems in installing OSX with it using Mechdrew's excellent guides. However, I believe that some people are getting 10.6.3 when they buy Snow Leopard and that there may be more problems in installing using 10.6.3 (search the threads for info on this).

KMC

KMC answered your first question.

The answer to your second question, unfortunately, is no.

I assume since you asked the question, you are familiar with Macs. New Macs frequently come with iLife, but you cannot use these install disks on your mini.

You'll need to get iLife separately - shop around, sometimes it can be found on sale; OR if you want iWork as well, you can buy the box set which includes SL, iLife and iWork. Again shop around.

And, welcome to dellminimac, enjoy!

(Stupid question I know xD Just want to make sure) and secoundly, how well to programs such as iMovie and screenflow work on the dell mini 10v? (Don't worry, I won't be doing any heavy editing xD just wondering)

Sure, upgrade when ya want. As always, check everything with the working operating system before you hack so you aren't chasing ghosts and blaming the new operating system for hardware problems. You may be surprised how well some things run.....I'm not saying you'll be amazed, but I do run that stuff and an occasional VM fusion with acceptable speed given what it is. Build and enjoy!!
