Default My experience loading SL on Dell Mini 10V.. - 09-05-2010, 05:16 PM

Wanted to share my experience loading SL on the Mini 10v. I am now running successfully as I type this out (including the trackpad!).

I didn't have immediate access to a Mac so i tried NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System .

Here's my suggestion. Go ahead try it and if it works, great. However, I tried all three methods listed twice, I trolled these boards for fixes, and basically spent the majority of 2.5 days trying to get it to work. I was about to buy new flash drives as I read that not all flash drives work. Don't do this!! Also, don't kill your self and spend hours trying to get these methods to work. I personally think they are unstable; there are three methods after all.

First, find a friend with a Mac and do the Dell Mini 10v Installation via USB and Mac . I used an Intel Mac to load the SL disk onto a USB HDD. However, had to use a different Mac to load the Netbookmaker as the initial Mac had to old a version to open it.

Really easy. The only confusion was knowing the difference that Netbookmaker and the Netbookinstaller are different. You really only need the installer when you do the software updates. After the initial restart after installation I found the Netbookinstaller under "Applications". The directions are a little confusing regarding this.

Also, I still got a "Kernal Panic" after I did the big first software update. Don't worry, go here and read the first post **OFFICIAL** Mac OS X 10.6.4 Update Thread . Did the fix and worked like a charm. In fact, you may just wanna read this post first for an overview of what is going on.

Anyways, my main advice is if you are having problems with "installing with any OS".....just stop. Save yourself a lot of frustration and find a Mac to use. Maybe you will have to be creative in getting your hands on one, but it'll be worth it.

The only issues I have now is that I am not sure if SL is loading as fast as it could. I have heard this mentioned and I may do some research on this. I also get this text message on the top left whenever I start that flashes for a half a second. Something about my hibernation software being out of date. Everything seems to be working, so I am not sure if this si a problem or not.

Hope this helps somebody.
