Default Can't re-install SL - 08-29-2010, 02:33 AM

I decided to re-install SL after I had trouble with my current installation.

I've now done it about six times, and it fails at the end. I've deleted the partitions, and re-done them as MS-DOS partitions (just to get rid of any data that might be confusing the installer) before I let the installer re-create an HFS+ partition.

I'm kinda stumped at this point--any suggestions?

Sounds like there is something wrong with your install media. It worked before, but sounds like something is wrong with it now.

I would redo that and then try again if it was me.

Thanks. I'll try that.

I'm using the 2 usb stick method. Do you think the problem is with the one that the Mac DVD is on, or is it advisable to re-do both?

I've never used that method, but if you are getting the second USB stick to boot and it fails during the install process, I would bet it is an issue with the OS X stick.

fail.

I re-ripped the DVD, and re-imaged the flash drive. 2 more tries, and the OSX installer complains that it "can't copy all the support files."

I don't seem to have all of the capacity of the 8 GB flash drive available. If I can figure out how to create a full size partition, I will try re-imaging one more time.

Well, if you check the capacity of the flash drive in disk utility does it show 8GB available?
That's the first thing I did basically because I used an 8GB Micro-SD card that I had used for pictures and videos previously and I wanted to make sure there were no files there I needed to keep.
Also don't know what the 2 USB stick method is, I just formatted the 8GB storage on the Mac as MBR, then copied the SL install disk, ran Netbookbootmaker and used that to install SL on the Dell after setting the Bios options there properly.
