Default Dual boot xp on a running 10.6 - 07-23-2010, 02:58 AM

I searched and feel like an idiot. I have OSX 10.6 running on a 10v with 2 partitions 200gb for windows.

How do I install XP? And dual boot.

I successfully accomplished this install on my 10v some time ago. my current system is actually a tripple boot, SL 10.6.4/Win7/Ubuntu.

The XP/SL dual boot is a bit counter intuitive. Here's an overview:

1. Backup (make a disk image of) your OSX install to an external drive either using Disk Utility, or Carbon Copy or another such Utility (I used Disk Utility)

2. Reformat/repartition your drive using MBR partition scheme.

3. Install XP onto first partition.

4. Restore OSX to the second partition
a. run NBI to install Chameleon Boot loader

That's the basic info you need.

Here's a more detailed guide: OS X SL Install on Dell 10V with Existing XP

only difference is that instead of doing a fresh install of OSX, you are restoring it from your saved image instead.

What system do you have? what is your install media (external dvd/ usb) ?
