panic info 10v kernel_task - 06-22-2010, 09:14 PM
I've gotten this panic also, a number of times. To debug it, I've edited my /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist file. Under Kernel Flags, i added debug=0x100, like so:
You need to reboot before it will work.
This gives me a detailed dump of the panic instead of the generic message for everyday users. Unfortunately, the message doesn't give me much clue or hope for a fix, because it points to kernel_task, not a kernel extension. See the full message below (there's a small possibility I made a typo in there, but I have a photo if needed.)
I usually get it when scrolling down with the arrow key in Firefox or Chrome. There may be a small chance I got it when not pressing an arrow key, but I'm not sure at this point. I'll keep this thread updated with more results.
Some details on my system:
dell mini 10v partitioned for a triple boot (xp, os x, unr lucid) according to Allan Kelly's guide, linked to from this site: Dell Mini 10 (1011) Snow Leopard triple boot. I've updated to 10.6.4 and other updates by using the new unofficial nbi in post #67 in the Official 10.6.4 update thread in the osx section of this forum.
One thing the Allan Kelly guide makes me unsure of is when doing the parted copy command, the source and target partitions are not the same size. I tried to make them as close as possible in gparted (about 45gb in my case; I used an external usb hdd instead of a 16gb usb stick; if you use the 16gb stick, you are limited to a 16gb os x install.)
Regardless, it seems this panic may not be related to the triple boot setup at all. Can anyone confirm? Anyone else getting this with just a single OS X partition?
