Default Snow Leopard Boot Time - 06-01-2010, 07:34 AM

Why does SL take like 1 min+ on a 10v to boot, whereas 10.5 (Leopard) booted in a good 30 seconds. I'm talking 5400RPM drive and freshly installed.

I was going to try the tonymacx86 kext. But after reading the thread I am worried about it. Seems some people were not getting good sound output with the new kext.

I read somewhere that flashing the network card to airport extreme shaves a couple seconds off boot.

Does anyone else know how to make sl boot faster?

I'm booting consistently at a little over 1 minute after I updated to 10.6.2. With 10.6.0 I was getting a faster boot and the apple task bar would come up immediately (once desktop shows) with the battery, sound, time, and wifi, etc. icons already shown. I am currently running nbi 8.3 alpha. Would upgrading my nbi to 8.4rc1 show any benefits? thanks!

Thanks Paul! I'll give nbi 8.4rc1 a try. I plan on keeping 10.6.2 though. Want to wait for a tried and true sound and wifi fix before I do the 10.6.3 update. I thought 8.4rc1 provided a fix for those who wanted to update to 6.3 only. did not realize it could improve a 10.6.2 performance.

I was semi-regularly having sound issues with 10.6.3 on NBI 8.4. Wasn't too gutted, would just restart if sound didn't show up. Yesterday I installed the kext from TonyMac and haven't had sound issue at all. Boot is a bit faster, not sure if it's so much that I'm blown away though. Still, no issues with it and sound seems steady so far, for any worried about using it.

I wasn't having sound issues but installing this 10.6.2 kext on my 10.6.3 install via the download link did result in a 35 second bootup time. My applause.
