Default 10v won't boot after update - 05-11-2010, 03:42 AM

I looked around the forums and found people with similar issues, but not my exact one.

I have a mini 10v that I installed snow leopard on about 3 months ago. I'm not sure which version it was exactly, but I purchased it at Best Buy at that time.

Anyway, I rarely use the machine, but I used it last night, and installed some kind of Apple system updates. When I went to reboot it, it started giving me the "version mis-match between kernel and cpu" error.

In the background, it says that my Kernel version is 10.3.0.

I'm running the A06 BIOS.

I'm a total noob here, so any help is appreciated.

I'm also pretty new to this OS X on a 10v thing but since no one else is answering...\

My first thought is if you are regularly using Time Machine to back up your system or have no important information on it that you dont mind losing - you could start from scratch and reinstall the OS. A little time consuming - but at least you know it will work again.

I never did time machine backups on this machine.

I figured I could start over, but I really don't want to have to go that route.

Anyone else have an alternate solution here?

What version of NBI are you running? for 10.6.3 you need NBI .084RC1, and you can still have problems.

Search the forums, you should find an answer. I would probably stick with 10.6.2

I kept losing sound with 10.6.3, and decided to roll back for now.

Good luck,
-DCP

I honestly forget. I did the install about 3 months ago, so whatever was fresh at that time.

I have the USB key I installed from...is there a way to tell from this?

I looked around, but since I don't know the exact OS version nor do I know the exact NBI version I have installed, it's kind of moot. If someone could tell me how to find that information, I'd appreciate it.

I had that mismatch error too and ended up reinstalling everything. Actually ended up doing so multiple times. What ended up "working" was re-downloading the latest copy of NBI, running that - installing the updates then when the machin reboots one of the boot screens wont be an apple in the center - it will be a NBI icon that looks like your mini with an OS X "x" on it. DO NOT DISTRUB THIS PROCESS/INITIAL BOOT!!!

Ok...I had the same problem. So I reloaded like 4 times and tried the 10.6.3 update...no go. So I down loaded each update in sequence from Apple (10.6.1; 10.6.2; 10.6.3) then reloaded and installed each package and rebooted. !0.6.3 killed my OSX install each time. For me 10.6.2 works...after install of 10.6.2 I had no sound. I ran Netbookinstaller 0.8.4 RC1 and then ran the "updateextra" to update the sound and got that back. I am fairly new to this hackintosh thing, but my 10v runs and works perfect with 10.6.2 so I haven't gone beyond that. Of course each time I reinstalled OSX 10.3.0, all my after market installed software was still there so I didn't really lose anything. Unless someone comes back with a better fix or solution for 10.6.3, and keeps it from crashing my install, thats what I have done for my solution.

Well, I don't have another mac to fix this thing with, so I don't think I can run the latest version of NBI.

Although it looks like it's v.84 RC1

Downloads - netbook-installer - Project Hosting on Google Code

@Poortodd40 - so a reinstall won't blow away my data?
