Default Mini 10v no longer sold - best alternative? - 04-26-2010, 09:28 PM

Hackbook newbie here, though long time Mac user, with Macs available for hacking process.

But Dell's site says the 10v is no longer available, except for the Nickelodeon special edition.

Reading through various threads here re various models, I'm thoroughly confused.

Any opinion on whether it's worth the slightly more money (but free Slime!) to get the 10v Nick version, rather than the regular mini 10 or 1012 in terms of ease of Hackintoshing?

The mini 10v is not sold through anymore, but if you look around you should still be able to find one I think. I saw it for sale (at reduced priced) just a couple of days ago.

Check the dell home outlet, ebay, craigslist, the for sale box here on the forum as a few options.

If you don't mind a little more work on the install maybe the HP mini 311, Asus 1201n (super good deal on one here: ASUS 1201n )

these both have nvidia ion graphics...

then too there are lots of other alternatives - acer, msi, on and on...

but the 10v seems to be the simplest install and 99% functioning like a macbook

The Starling Netbook made by System 76 uses the intel atom N270 and GMA 950 graphics so it should be ace.

Should still be available through Dell Outlet USA- although no N280s are up right now, all N270s. There's a coupon thread I think in the 10v section [EDIT: It's in the Main Forums]. You can also follow them on twitter (@DellOutlet). Just wait. Otherwise craigslist and ebay can be good options, too, but I think Dell Outlet is the best bang for buck. (Got my config at $300 with a 15% coupon)

Oh and i would definitely spring cash on an extended battery. I get ~6.5 hrs with medium usage on my little guy.
