I should have kept my mouth shut. This thing runs a totally different BIOS than the Latitude series. There's no way to change the SATA operation in there.

Another thought, though, can you take the HD out and slap it into a USB/SATA enclosure, format it on another PC, then try again? Apologies if this has been suggested.

Default Problem with hard drive detection on Mini 1012 - 05-22-2010, 01:56 PM

Hi guys im having the same problem, Disk utility is showing only the USB drive im booting from. Someone suggested that I should try reformatting the drive into FAT32 first, anyone tried this method before?

I briefly had this problem too. Turns out I'd bought a "Mini 10", not a "Mini 10v".

Please don't be offended by this obvious question: are you all sure you have a "10v"?

(Differences: "10v" has a slightly recessed screen, an accessible compartment on the bottom for the Wifi card and VGA-out. "10" has a screen flush with the bezel, no accessible compartment for Wifi, no VGA-out)

Note that there are two models Dell has called "Mini 10". The original, model number 1010, is as Flint describes. The newer, model number 1012, looks more like a 10v (1011) but isn't the same internally. I'll also note that Dell sometimes refers to the newer 1018 as a "10v", just to keep life interesting.
