Question Guide tweaks for NetbookInstaller 1 - or I did something wrong - 04-21-2010, 02:28 PM

As my 10v is arriving tomorrow, I setup my flash drive last night to prepare. Following your guide, everything worked fine, but I have a few modifications you might want to throw in. This was done using Disk Utility in 10.6.3 and the latest netbookmaker app (0.8.4 RC1):

QUOTE: "Click Restore, then click Restore in the popup window."

My popup window didn't have "Restore" as a button. This is because, by default, the restore tab selects "Erase Partition" as an option. So my pop up verified that I wanted to erase the partition I just created in the previous step, so my button said "Erase".

QUOTE: "Enter your password, and then wait anywhere between 25 minutes to 2 hours for it to finish."

This took about 3 hours using my macbook and flash drive, so you might want to add another hour.

QUOTE: "When restoration is finished, close Disk Utility and eject the DVD.
Open the NetbookBootMaker application. If a warning prompt shows up asking, "Are you sure you want to open it?" click Open.
For USB Partition, select OSXDVD."

This was not a selectable option. This is because once the drive was restored, having erased the previous partition, the new one is called "Mac OS X Install DVD" - the same as the original DVD.

I used common sense and everything went fine, but some people that might need to follow your guide EXACTLY might panic if buttons and choices are not the same. If "Erase Partition" should not have been selected, and this is why everything was different, then that should probably be added to the guide (can you tell me if that was the case?). Now I'm wondering if restoring and erasing the partition took off the "Master Boot Record" option I selected... I'll have to verify that when I get home. Either way, a few tweaks to the guide could probably help for some clarity.

You know what, i saw the exact same and i think this is why my OSX USB stick isn't booting on the 10v. With it checked, it takes only 22 minutes and changes it back to osx extended, not journaled.

I definitly feel that the guide should be revised, but i believe the writer stated time is not on his side. if all goes well, i will record a new video and put it on youtube

We could help you!!!! lol

Well, I checked my boot drive - it was still Maser Boot Record after the erase option. I did it again anyway without the option - still took about 3-3.5 hours to complete, but everything seemed to work. I'm going to attempt the install tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Its upseeting because on the 1st try it was the fastest and easiest install in the universe but now....uuuggghhh!!!

Install went perfectly - no issues with using the flash drive restored without erasing - just as the instructions specified. Everything works great on my 10v.

OMG you guys! Its finally doing it and wow....i think it's cause "QuickBoot" option was enabled. After disabling this option...what do you know.....I get the splash screen and begin installation. It is amazing how something so small can cause a 3 day issue.

Someone should post what the BIOS setting...ever single one...either enabled or disabled. Because i have only read what should be enabled.

Thanks to this forum you guys are Geniuses! Merlot, (sorry if the name is wrong) thanks for your hard work i am a MAC fanatic and man i lost 3 days of sleep trying to get this to work again.....AAAAhhhh the bios...lmao
