Default Problem: Thread wants credential but has no BSD process. - 04-19-2010, 09:28 PM

I installed NBI 084 RC1 on my Dell Mini 10v in the hopes of installed 10.6.3 and the install went fine, but in order to boot the computer I have to use recovery=y every time. Otherwise I receive this kernel panic.

panic(CPU 0 caller 0x46595d): "thread wants credential but has no BSD process"@/sourcecache/xnu/xnu-1504.3.12/bsd/kern/kern_credital.c:2596
.
.
.

I had seen a post on another site referencing the same error, but there was never any conclusion or followup in how it was fixed.

Mac OSX was originally installed using a PC to create the two USB images. I successfully upgraded to 10.6.2 using the guide on Mechdrew's site.

Does anyone have any idea of how to get around this problem? I tried rerunning NBI Installer within MAC OSX, but it doesn't change help.

Thanks for your help

I have just received the same error. Everything was running fine until I rebooted this morning. Then KP! The only thing I can think of that may have effected my system was moving voodoopowermini.kext back into the AdditionalExtensions folder and re-running UpdateExtra. Just booting into safe mode now to see if re-running NBI will help...

Removed voodoopowermini.kext again (as apparently 0.8.4RC1 includes support for speedstepping so this shouldn't be needed) and re-ran NBI.

Rebooted and it started up normally! Just noticed that I dont have proper graphics drivers installed though now (no QE - cant see the background image through the menu panel). Just re-running NBI in normal mode now...

Re-ran NBI and get the KP again...

Re-running NBI in Safe mode appears to allow it to boot normally. However, running it in normal mode causes the KP. I dont think it is really related to NBI, I think something else has caused this so I am just backing everything up and gonna do a complete reinstall.

I just ran into this kernel panic "thread wants credentials" error on reboot after re-running NBI 0.84 rc1.

The only way I was able to fix it was to uninstall Apples XCode and then re-run NBI 0.84 rc1. That fixed it.

To uninstall Apples XCode do this from terminal:
sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all

I would like at some point to run XCode without fear of things breaking if I have to run NBI again. I could go ahead and re-install XCode and it would run fine, that is until I have to run NBI again. Anywho, I'll live with it until someone smarter then me is able to shed some more light on the problem.

Good luck.

God Bless,

Ben

Same problem. Exactly the same one

XCode is however quite essential to me. What is the downside of recovery=y flag?

Update: Ok I found out No kext for wireless/audio at all

Same error. I was abroad since January, so I was up to date on NBI at that time. I just ran Mac software update without checking to see what was in it (I know, I know, how stupid could I be?)

So I hit F8 or hold shift, and I get that weird screen, and I don't know which to choose and two o them just scroll through a bunch of stuff, and then sit there.

I haven't backed up anything in the last two months. I can't lose that stuff. What do I do?

Boot with recovery=y (press shift). Then uninstall xcode, run NBI, and reinstall Xcode it following my instructions I posted here Weird kernel panic (nbi 0.8.4rc1 + osx 10.6.3)

Cheers

Recovery=y didn't help the kernel panic. Still won't boot.

If this helps, the screen I get when pressing shift says v2.0-rc3, which I'm guessing is the NBI version?

Okay, I am unable to boot into safe mode. -x-s-f-v does NOT work. It still hangs and the actual panic is:

[SleepEnabler] Registering PowerManagement dispatch table...
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a96f6): "version mismatch between Kernel and CPU PM"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.3.13/osfmk/i386/pmCPU.c:720
Debugger called: <panic>

What do I do?
