Default 10.6.3 Wi-Fi issues...fix - 04-05-2010, 03:43 PM

Well, I've gone back and forth with 10.6.2 and 10.6.3...besides the audio issue with 10.6.3, I've been having issues with Wi-Fi at work, so google-fu later, I came across this:

Wireless dropping problems with Mac OS 10.6.3 update, a simple fix - OS X Daily

I tried 10.6.3 and this little fix and so far so good...Wi-Fi is working again and I haven't knocked anyone offline yet...fingers crossed.

Had a happy 10.6.6 machine and updated to 10.6.7, but no love...maybe I'll do a vanilla install...but probably not.

Same here, just going to use win7 until it gets fixed.

Just wondered if this is only affecting users who have NOT flashed their cards to be seen by the OS as Airport Extreme ones... or could it possibly be card (or even router) specific?

Just looking for a common denominator really... if indeed there is one!

Personally I haven't experienced any problems, but of course that doesn't help those who have.

You know, it might be the "flashing" card trick, but I'm not sure if I want to go that route. I'm pretty sure it's a apple software issue and should be fixed in 10.6.3.1, the only reason I suspect that is because there are a bunch of other real Mac users on Mac forums reporting the same problem. I doubt that their machines are using 3rd party cards, but what do I know.

I do know that the other PC's are fine in the office and my mini is ok running 10.6.2, but once I use 10.6.3, my wifi drops and knocks everyone else off...the boss is not happy about that.

I'm sure it is compatibility with the router...it's old, and it might be a ploy by apple to upgrade or buy a base station. My office will not buy a new router just because I want to run OS X. Anyway, my mini with 10.6.3 worked at home with and without the tweak. I don't believe that it is a edit location, network setting, preference or some "easy" fix...it's a problem for some and maybe few, but it's problem.

...rant off...
