Likewise, I had grabbed 0.8.4Pre a little while back and read here before doing the update. It looked like 0.8.4RC1 was out, so I d/l, ran it and rebooted. Then just did the normal update process.
The update using the built-in OS X process takes quite some time. I simply let the machine go and came back a while later. It went very very smoothly, no issues from what I can see so far. I did re-run 0.8.4RC1 afterward and did a fresh reboot, just for good measure. Probably unnecessary.

don't do it...
follow the guides and it should be fine or leave it for a while (OSX.6.2 will be useless in about 5 years time anyhoos)
I know people still happily using Tiger.
scratch that i know some one using system4 , he can contact the dead through it..

I will revise my earlier statement and say, if you do not need to run Adobe Creative Suite Apps, then upgrade away. If you use Photoshop, might want to read this, a new known issue with 10.6.3 that has nothing to do with NBI or Dell mini...
Apple - Support - Discussions - Installed 10.6.3 and now Photoshop CS3 ...
