Default OSX Unsuccessful Install - 03-25-2010, 12:57 PM

Tried installing OSX following all the steps from Gizmodo's walkthrough.

When OSX finished installing, a screen came up that said that the installation was unsuccessful and that it couldn't boot from the drive that I had just partitioned and installed on. I tried restarting and changing the BIOS to boot from the hard drive, but then it said there is no operating system to be found.

Any ideas of what went wrong?

Default Don't use Gizmoto's guide. It's out of date. - 03-25-2010, 05:03 PM

Go straight to the source and use mechdrew's guides.

Guides | OS X | mechdrew

and use the latest NetBookMaker/NetbookInstaller software

You might be able to fix this if you run the latest NetbookInstaller (0.8.4) again. You might have to boot up from the USB stick to run it.

Mini 10v Triple Boot, OS-X 10.6.3, Windows 7 Starter, Ubuntu Netbook Remix

If it's not broke, take it apart and see how it works

I tried it again with those instructions. I am using the current version of NetbookInstaller.

Every time I try running it again and booting from the USB it goes into the OSX install fine, but when it finishes I get the same error.

Do I need to boot from a USB drive with ONLY the NetbookInstaller on it or am I doing the right thing by trying it again with the USB I have with NetbookInstaller AND the image of the OSX disk?

It appears that what is happening is that after the OSX install fails, it restarts, can't find anything to boot off of on the hard drive, so then it goes down the boot order and ends by trying to boot over the network drive. Then it says there's an error, no network cable is plugged in, and that no operating system is available.

Thanks SO much for the help.

I got it fixed. The problem was that I had accidentally downloaded NetbookInstaller instead of NetbookMaker. Once I installed NetbookMaker on the USB drive everything worked fine.

Thanks.
