Default Screen resolution cut off is there a fix? - 03-24-2010, 11:30 PM

Bare with me as I am a Mac noob, but is there anyway to fix the screen cut off on some menus in OSX? I have attached an image below to show an example of what I mean. It does not happen that frequently, but sometimes the menus just go off the screen and I cannot drag them up higher as they stop at the top bar.

I'm a bit surprised the windows don't scale with scroll bars when they cannot be fully displayed on the screen.

Thanks

Are your display settings in system preferences set to the appropriate resolution size? Hope that's not an insulting suggestion, just don't know how new to mac you are...I haven't had any such trouble. There are some threads dedicated to fixing application windows that open as too large for the mini's resolution size that may be of help.

Go here and download both DisplayScale_75.zip and DisplayScale_100.zip. When you get stuck on a screen run 75% and it will scale the screen to 75%, when finished run 100% to return to full res. It doesn't work with GarageBand though.

I've noticed the same issue.

Screen Resolution is 1024x600 and the screen shrink zip does not work for the Finder window.

Had a happy 10.6.6 machine and updated to 10.6.7, but no love...maybe I'll do a vanilla install...but probably not.

Why would you want to scale the Finder? As far as I know there are no issues with the Finder. The Finder Preferences window shown is fine because 'All documents', the last listed checkbox, is clearly accessible.

I know...but the OP was probably wondering if it was normal or if there was a workaround. The screen scaler works for 99.9% of the apps that get cut off, like photobooth. No biggie...just part of the joy of running OS X on a dell.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have looked at the screen res and I am at the max setting of 1024x600. I will take a look at that app for shrinking the screen.

The problem is that I did not know that the last check box was "All Documents." I thought there was more options below it that I could not see. And since I could not drag the window up higher or scroll I had no idea what was below. Additionally, that was just an example. There is a menu with this issue in Evernote, and the intro splash screens in iphoto and imovie were cut off as well.

I did not know that this was normal. I am used to windows scaling no matter what size screen they are displayed on.

But again, thanks for the responses everyone. So far I am enjoying playing with the Mac OS.
